Privacy
This page explains what happens to information when you read the journal. The short version: no advertising trackers, no analytics company, no cookies for readers.
Reading the site
The site is served through Cloudflare, which handles the connection and passes along the country your request comes from. Our server keeps ordinary web logs for a few days for security and to find broken links.
When you leave or hide a page, your browser sends the journal a short reading note: the page address, how many seconds it was on your screen, how far down you scrolled, the kind of site that sent you (a search engine, another site, or none) and the country Cloudflare reports. The note carries a random number that exists only while that page is open, so two notes from the same page view can be joined. We do not store your IP address, your browser details or any cookie with it, and nothing is sent when your browser asks for Do Not Track or Global Privacy Control. We use these counts to see which recipes people read to the end.
Partner boxes
Some pages show a box marked Partner that links to a shop or service (through the CJ Affiliate and MaxBounty networks). If you click one, we count the click with the page, the box and your country, and nothing else. The shop and the network may then set their own cookies to credit the visit; their privacy policies apply there: CJ and MaxBounty. For MaxBounty boxes your browser first asks our own server for the network's address, and the network is only reached after you click.
The contact form
If you write to us, we keep your name, email address and note so we can reply, and a copy goes to the journal's inbox. The form is protected by Cloudflare Turnstile, which checks that a person is sending it (Cloudflare's privacy policy). We never add you to a list and never share your note.
Cookies
Readers get no cookies from us. The only cookie the site sets is the login cookie for its editors. See the cookie policy.
